Jacob Weintraub, Director of Training Services

Jacob Weintraub has been working in Object Technology since 1988. His extensive teaching credentials include teaching C++, Advanced C++, and Object Oriented Analysis & Design throughout the U.S. and abroad for renowned companies such as AT&T, Bellcore, IBM Research, UPS, NCR, and Unisys. Jacob's excitement over Java compelled him in 1995 to focus on it to the exclusion of everything else. He is co-author of the Introductory and Advanced Java courses and his teaching expertise in Java has lead him to guest lecture at Lotus Development Corp., Prodigy, Autodesk, and other computer development firms. He also taught at the 1996 International Java Developers Conference (New York, May 1996), and he occasionally writes for The Java Report and JavaWorld. Jacob is also a seasoned developer, with projects including user interface development, the development of reusable class libraries for financial systems and relational database connectivity, and development of a CORBA IDL to C++ compiler. Along with teaching and developing new courses for AWT Corp., Jacob is currently developing commercial Java projects. His areas of interest include Java connectivity to databases via JDBC (Java DataBase Connectivity) & ODBC and to CORBA compliant Object Request Brokers (ORBS). Simon Whelan, Java Trainer

Simon Whelan has been aware of Object-Oriented programming since the August, 1981 issue of Byte Magazine (which was devoted entirely toSmalltalk) which "Knocked his socks off". He began dabbling with Smalltalk in the summer of 1985 when he ß tested Apple's version of the language. Since the late '80's he has been almost continuously busy developing and writing about Object-oriented software in C++ & Object Pascal for various clients including Philip Morris. Since getting involved with Java in the fall of 1995, Simon considers himself to be a "Macintosh Software Emigré"and is especially attracted to the "Write Once, Run Everywhere" cross platform possibilities of Java. At the moment, Simon is busy teaching Java courses for AWT and helping further develop AWT's course materials. He is also busy developing a foreign exchange applet and another educational applet devoted to the Period Table of the Elements.

Jonathan D. Rachlin, Java Trainer

Jonathan D. Rachlin has been a software developer since the early 1980's. Beginning as an independent consultant, he designed database systems for commercial and investment banks, as well as Fortune 500 companies. In 1986, Jonathan teamed up with other developers to form Riverside Consultants, Inc., which specialized in providing customized trading systems to major commercial banks. Later, Riverside developed the Riverside Trading System, an off-the-shelf interest-rate derivatives system used in London, Tokyo, and New York. During this time, Jonathan was involved in all phases of development, including project management, analysis and design, programming, documentation, and training. As a programmer, he worked in numerous languages and database systems, although his specialty was C. With the advent of the World Wide Web, Jonathan added Java to his programming arsenal, and Java has been his primary development language over the last year and a half.

A graduate of Yale, Jonathan has a wide teaching background, both inside and outside of the computer field. He provided extensive training and classes for clients, both regarding software use and finance. He also has been an English teacher, and is currently a licensed soccer trainer.
