Grant Lally, a successful businessman and attorney, is a lifelong
resident of New York. From the quiet civility of Long Island's
north shore, to the war ravaged villages of Bosnia, Grant has
lived an accomplished life, uniquely preparing him for service
in the United States Congress. Grant's roots reach deep into our
community, and his strong record of civic involvement stretches
back to his childhood.
Grant became the 1994 Republican and Conservative Party candidate for U.S. Congress in New York's Fifth District (North Shore Long Island and Northest Queens), after winning two tough primary elections. Grant's call for "more freedom, less government" echoed across the nation as Washington's Roll Call called his race against an ultra-liberal Democratic incumbent the most competitive race in America. A fighter for the principles of economic growth and opportunity, Grant believes that we must reduce the size of the federal budget by cutting taxes and wasteful spending. He is committed to balancing the budget and was a national leader in supporting a modified flat tax, keeping the core deductions for mortgage interest and state/local taxes. Grant has been a leader in fighting for tough anti-crime legislation, and serves on the board of Take Back New York. Internationally, Grant knows that the world is still a very dangerous place. Grant assisted the democratic forces in the first free elections in East Germany, and he became the first American to enter China's Tiannamen Square after the brutal massacre of 1989. Leading a recent factfinding mission to Bosnia, Grant saw all too clearly how the delicate fabric of civilization can rip and tear, with tragic results. An active member of the community, Grant has dedicated many hours of work with groups such as the Red Cross, Kiwanis International and the Bayside Historical Society, He is an active member of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, the Irish Lawyers Association, the Steuben Society, the Holocaust Memorial Commission, and serves as Chairman of the Long Island Federalist Society, and on the National Board of the Republican National Lawyers Association. Grant earned his bachelors degree at the Johns Hopkins University, a law degree at Boston University, and a masters of international law at Georgetown University. He is a successful businessman and has been a practicing attorney on Long Island for eight years. Grant's mother, Judge Ute Wolff Lally, is a highly-respected Justice of the New York State Supreme Court. |
