"Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-Jamaica) is blowing even more smoke on Ft. Totten," declared Grant Lally. "Ackerman formed another toothless committee to cover up the fact that what a United States Congressman does is vote, and when it came time to vote for Northeast Queens, Ackerman voted against us."
"In 1987 Ackerman voted for the McKinney Act in Congress (H. R. 558), to turn decommissioned military bases into homeless shelters," Lally continued. "even this year Ackerman could have taken a vote to reverse his support for homeless shelters in Ft. Totten (H. J. Res. 102), but the "NO" vote that he took on the floor of the House of Representatives was a "YES" vote for homeless shelters in Ft. Totten."
"One thousand homeless men can be placed in Ft. Totten," Lally continued. "That Ackerman would invite one thousand homeless men in our community is completely insane."
"I am stunned that Gary Ackerman has the audacity to come into Northeast Queens and claim to support our community while in Washington he has consistently voted to turn Ft. Totten into a homeless shelter," Lally continued.
d "Ackerman has spent eighteen years on our payroll, trying to trick us with feel- good committees that do nothing but attempt to cover up his legislative papertrail," Lally concluded. "Do not be fooled, Ackerman has twice voted to turn Ft. Totten into a homeless shelter. Ackerman must be stopped. Eighteen years of Gary Ackerman trying to fool us with our taxdollars is definitely long enough."
