"Congressman Gary Ackerman's (D-Jamaica) vicious attack against Ginny Volpe on May 30th was absolutely bizarre," stated Republican Congressional candidate Grant Lally. "Ackerman's behavior, attacking a young mother and community leader offends every standard of decency."
"Ackerman issued a bizarre eight-page letter and held an irrational hour-long press conference on April 30th attacking Ginny Volpe, a housewife in East Northport," Lally continued. "Ms. Volpe is a young mother and civic association leader. She has taken on the daunting task of fighting to protect our community. For Ackerman to viciously attack her is not only "McCarthism" in its lowest form , but raises real questions about Ackerman's fitness to hold office.."
"Ackerman's bizarre political attacks may also violate federal law because of how they were conducted," Lally continued. "Ackerman made references to me and the upcoming elections in his 'press release.' He attacked me and the Republican Party. And issued his release on government stationary. It was faxed on government machines. The press conference itself was held in an official federal government office. These are blatant violations of house ethics and federal election finance."
"Ackerman attacks me. He attacks Ginny Volpe for talking to me. He attacks civic leaders in Queens for talking to Ginny Volpe," stated Lally. "This is a very disturbing pattern of attacking residents of our district."
'Ackerman has lost all the sense that a Congressman should have," Lally continues. "After eighteen years of public life all Gary Ackerman has left is to attack young mothers. This is pathetic behavior by Gary Ackerman. That is why, eighteen years of Gary Ackerman on the taxpayer payroll is long enough."
