"Gary Ackerman (D-Jamaica) is showing his radical liberal tendencies by supporting mandatory recognition of homosexual marriages," stated Grant Lally, Republican candidate for Congress in New York's Fifth Congressional District. "Ackerman's failure to support the Defense of Marriage Act (H.R. 3396) shows how radically liberal he is. Ackerman is so far out in left field he cannot see home plate."
"The Defense of Marriage Act defends marriage and protects the right of states to decide this important policy matter without intervention or compulsion from the federal courts," Lally continues. "This bill has a broad base of bi-partisan support. President Clinton has said he will sign the Defense of Marriage bill into law. Yet Ackerman is so radically liberal that he again runs to the left of the President to support the gay agenda."
"Ackerman has supported the radical homosexual agenda before," Lally continues. "He voted for homosexuals in the military, but an even more radical move by Ackerman was when he voted to keep AIDS-infected employees in the food-handling positions," Lally continues, citing House Votes 460, (9/28/93) and House Vote 118, (5/17/90).
"The Defense of Marriage Act is a reasonable and common-sense piece of legislation that is pro-family and good for America," Lally continues. "That is why a majority of Republicans and Democrats in Congress and President Clinton support it's passage. Eighteen years of Gary Ackerman driving the radical liberal agenda is long enough."
